How To Treat Partially Erupted Wisdom Teeth

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Dr. Johnson
How To Treat Partially Erupted Wisdom TeethWisdom teeth will only appear in adulthood, early adulthood, or late teenage years. When wisdom teeth lack sufficient space, they get stuck because they cannot break through the gums. When such happens, it is referred to as impacted wisdom teeth. With impacted wisdom teeth, one experiences many health issues and tooth decay problems, among other dental issues. Hence, treatment for impacted wisdom teeth is required as soon as possible, and this is how.

Treating An Erupted Wisdom Tooth

Most dentists advise their patients to have their erupted wisdom teeth removed if they cause dental issues or show symptoms. The wisdom tooth will be released through an outpatient surgical procedure. Thus, you will be allowed to go home the same day after your wisdom tooth has been removed. A wisdom tooth extraction is a procedure to remove any erupted wisdom tooth. Some dentists use anesthetic drugs such as sedation anesthesia, local anesthesia, or general anesthesia. The drug your dentist will use depends on how erupted the tooth is for the extraction.

What The Wisdom Teeth Extraction Procedure Entails

Once the anesthesia has been used to prevent a patient from feeling pain, the dentist will cut through the gums to eliminate the bone-causing problems before removing the tooth. Once the wisdom tooth has been extracted, stitches are used to close the incision, and gauze is used to fill the space. The operation can take a maximum of 60 minutes from 30 minutes. The partially impacted gums take less time to extract than the fully erupted ones. Also, recovering from an impacted tooth surgery will take less time when the teeth impacted are partially affected than it would take for fully erupted wisdom teeth removal. If the wisdom teeth with the eruption caused no issues, you could still keep it.
