Minutes before you go for a major oral surgery, an oral surgeon will administer general anesthesia to make you unconscious throughout the procedure. The anesthesia causes you to be unaware of the whole procedure when it starts taking effect. It is, however, rare to wake up during dental surgery.

Dentistry research says that one case out of a thousand procedures is where a patient wakes up during the procedure. It is a condition medically referred to as anesthesia awareness. The patient can recall an event during the surgery or remember their surroundings while under general anesthesia. While this scenario is upsetting, the patient does not feel any pain during this time.

For example, this experience is common among patients with several medical conditions.
