Fun tips for teaching kids to brush

Posted on 1/15/2024 by Dr. Johnson
Image of toothbrushes. To kids, brushing is such a daunting task. It can also be as hard as it is for kids to you as you teach them how to do it. Some tips for teaching kids how to brush will make it fun. Remember, kids do not mind doing things that sound fun to them, it actually might turn out to be their favorite thing. Some of the ways you can make it more enjoyable and successful are mentioned below.

Set an example

Kids learn more by watching and hearing. That means that if your kids see you brushing daily, they might give it a thought too. Like most things, kids follow their parents' lead. Therefore, it is advisable to brush your teeth in front of them, and with a good technique, be sure to do it at least for two minutes as recommended by dentists and do it with them. By this, they are likely to follow your lead depending on how often you do it. So, it is important to set a good example.

Start brushing at an early age

If you want your children to normalize brushing their teeth, then you better start at an early age. By doing this, they grow comfortable with the thought of regular brushing. The goal here is to make it a habit and develop a convenient routine.

Once the routine is favorable and convenient, explain to them the importance of brushing their teeth. Teach them about cavities, tooth decay, and bad breath. Trust me, children fear the idea of germs in their mouths! Remind them of the beautiful smile that comes as a result of brushing their teeth. With that, they will be willing to brush.

Personalize your kids tooth brushing adventures

When they are of age, let them select their brush and toothpaste. Whether they love cars, princesses, or mint, there is every design of their liking in the stores. They are likely to be more excited to brush their teeth if they are fond of their toothbrush. This is an effective means for kids who are desiring to own and control their activities.

In conclusion, as a parent, remind them that you are happy and proud of them when they do so. The best way to do this is by rewarding them. This will help in motivating them to brush their teeth more often. Use whatever motivates your child most, Thank me later. Find us at our offices today for these and more tips.
