Digital X-Rays

You are probably familiar with the hassle of conventional film x-rays when going to the dentists. Digital x-rays are the next generation of technology, offering all the same benefits with far less hassle. Brookfield Oral Surgery can help you receive affordable, high-quality digital x-rays for your next dental visit.

What are digital x-rays?

X-rays are critical to many of the treatments that we perform every day. X-rays help us when creating precise surgical guides, placing dental implants, and diagnosing unknown ailments and conditions. X-rays help us make your treatments safer and faster, and improve their long-term success so that you have fewer visits and lower costs. That is why we are always looking for ways to improve x-ray technology, making it both more accurate and safer for you.

Digital x-rays are the current standard for dental x-ray technology, improving on traditional film x-rays in a number of different ways. One of the biggest improvements is how much radiation digital x-rays give off compared to their predecessors. Because we use digital sensors that take far less time to successfully image you, you receive up to 90 percent less radiation. At the same time, we are getting an even more detailed scan of your teeth, bones, and the rest of your mouth.

How a digital x-ray can benefit you

If you are sensitive to radiation, then a digital x-ray is a great way to get all the diagnostic benefits of an x-ray with only a tenth of the radiation. This is particularly useful for pregnant women, women who are breastfeeding, and children.

How to prepare for a digital x-ray

One of the many benefits of digital x-rays is how easy it is for you. There is nothing special that you need to do before receiving one, and nothing that you have to worry about afterward. You will not be able to wear glasses or metal facial jewelry to avoid interfering with the scan, but that is it!

What to expect when getting a digital x-ray

Digital x-rays take much less time than conventional film x-rays, so you can expect your appointment to be shorter. The digital sensor immediately broadcasts what it sees, so there is no need to wait for the film to develop. Similar to conventional x-rays, you do have to bite down on an object placed inside your mouth, though in this case it is actually the digital sensor that does the imaging. Patients with sensitive gag reflexes can sometimes find this uncomfortable, so letting us know ahead of time can help us accommodate you better.
